Project Work : Total refit and refurbishment design at Palmer Johnson, GA

Braveheart came about as a direct result of ShowBoat Magazine’s, Itasca cover story and photos. The client called our Seattle office stating they would like to meet with us at our earliest convenience. When asked how they heard about our work, we were told they liked Itasca’s interior as it didn’t look like every other mega yacht interior on the water. They preferred the homey feel we had designed and were considering the purchase of an existing vessel with plans to refurbish the existing interior for Charter and their family use. Bell Design Group was to physically critique the proposed purchase and estimate what the project might cost. Bell Design Group prepared concept and construction drawings and specifications for this fast paced project which was fun. The existing yacht had been arranged well in the beginning so a few architectural tweaks, updated lighting and finish updates were all that was necessary to make the yacht a delightful environment again.

Long story short; the beautiful refit was completed at Palmer Johnson’s yard in Savannah, GA under the direction of Eric Haberle, PJ’s VP at the time and his crew. Bell Design Group rented a Savannah condo for staff on the Riverfront, rolled up our sleeves and went to work. Even though our days were mostly no break, ten hour stints, fond memories of late dinners at the Riverfront Chart House and strolling past the jazz clubs on our walk back to the condo still are among our best and unforgettable times. On those few days we did take a lunch break, a small restaurant near PJ’s served the best Grouper Fish and Chips ever!
