PROGRAM: Motel conversion into affordable housing via Project Homekey
As part of Project Homekey, this conversion of a motel to affordable housing with supportive services will provide private units for at least 20 people to call home. Located in a high-income area several blocks from the ocean in Redondo Beach, the development introduces much-needed housing diversity to support the local population. BDG worked with Century Housing to repair and upgrade the former motel, which included adding kitchenettes, providing accessibility improvements, other code improvements, and exterior refinishing. The completed work improves an aging building along the highly trafficked Pacific Coast Highway, bringing new homes and revitalization to this beachside community.

PROGRAM: Motel conversion into affordable housing via Project Homekey
As part of Project Homekey, this conversion of a motel to housing with supportive services will be the first affordable housing development in more than a decade in the Town of Mammoth Lakes, California. The scope includes the conversion of one unit into a fully accessible residence, as well as upgrades to the other existing rooms for a more contemporary and welcoming environment. The program includes 16 units, ski lockers, an accessible lobby with a wheelchair platform, a laundry room and a new accessible parking lot.
.
In addition to maintaining the former motel's cozy mountain character, the building undergoes substantial improvements to support its transformation into a distinctive residential property, incorporating the existing double-height lobby, now designed to accommodate individuals with reduced mobility. Accessibility limitations were addressed through the provision of a ground-floor unit with private laundry. To establish a viable path of travel from the exterior, a wheelchair platform was integrated into the lobby area.
