PROGRAM: New construction of an affordable senior living community with a variety of gathering spaces and amenities.

The Pinole Senior Housing Project, also known as Vista Woods Apartments, is a new development designed by BDG. Vista Woods will offer a mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, with rent and income levels ranging between 30% and 80% of the area's median income.

The complex will also feature several community spaces and more than a half-acre of recreational grounds. Designed with sustainability in mind, the project incorporates drought-tolerant plantings and encourages healthy living among its residents. The facility includes a new bus stop, parking, and ride-share to assist older adults who no longer drive. This thoughtful and much-anticipated project will enhance the quality of life for seniors in the Bay Area of Northern California.

Vista Woods Apartments’ design drew inspiration from the colors and textures of the natural surroundings in Pinole and the Bay Area. Color accents throughout the building reference the blues of the San Pablo Bay, greens from Pinole’s wooded landscapes, and gold from California’s iconic hills. Interior and exterior finishes throughout complement the color accents with warmth and texture.

The mix of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units allows for flexibility of lifestyles while providing full accessibility features for the senior residents. Each apartment features a balcony, in-unit washer/dryer hookups, and a dishwasher. Tenant amenities include a variety of indoor and outdoor community spaces such as a computer room and a vegetable garden, as well as a fitness room, package delivery rooms, and offices for onsite management staff. The landscape design incorporates a diverse set of outdoor active and passive recreation areas to promote wellness.
