The Venice V Hotel sits on the famed Boardwalk of Venice Beach in an historic 1913 brick building. This new, boutique hotel features 33 unique rooms, each designed to pay tribute to the neighborhoods unique and diverse history - from the varied global artists who have called it home to the iconic Dogtown culture. The Penthouse floor features six separate “bungalow rooms” with private rooftop decks. Among the hotel’s amenities, selected and curated by BDG, are surf and skateboards.
The lobby portrait of Venice’s iconic founder About Kinney embodies the approach to designing this project, which bridges the historic and contemporary aspects of Venice. While checking in, guests are greeted by this 450 SF wall mural made from over one thousand colorful skate wheels.

Each guest room is appointed to evoke the lifestyle of an artist, bohemian, or skater. This includes the careful curation of artwork and décor, such as original art from local artists, books chosen to correspond with each room’s vibe, and personal touches uncommon to the typical hotel. Such elements were chosen to promote the feeling of staying in a curated apartment in Venice.
The BDG team not only designed the interiors and renovated the historic structure, but also curated and procured all FF&E, as well as designing the amenity packages. Local art featured in each room is available for purchase. Custom light fixtures and furniture were designed and installed throughout.
Unique to the Dogtown rooms are custom-designed skateboards — wall mounted at entry — made by The Garage Board Shop, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit that provides a place for kids to do their homework and rewards grades with skate supplies and time in their skate facility. Taking home, or using, this unique in room amenity will also give back to the kids.
